The Public School Systems

Comprehensive information of the performance of public school systems (and individual schools) in the State of Tennessee can be accessed from the report card web site of the Tennessee Department of Education. Regarding the scores, within each system there is a significant range of performance--- these are all average scores. The table below presents data for the results of the ACT tests for the various school systems. Note that all counties have school systems, but only some towns and cities have public systems. For example, Knox County School Systems is the only public school system in Knox County. Schools in the city of Knoxville and the town of Farragut are operated by Knox County Schools. On the other hand, Blount County has three systems, Blount County, Maryville, and Alcoa.

In the infomation given about the systems, we have present information on the overall enrollment and on the number of elementary, middle, and high schools. It should be noted that each of the systems have special education schools and programs, as well as adult education programs. Some of these, such as in Knox County, are extensive.
